THE HISTORY OF LA SALVE

The fields where the Hotel is located were acquired by Arturo López Rofríguez in 1947, but previously they were already known as the place of La Salve among the locals. By that time, it was only a arable land, dry and arid, but there are historical records that confirm a 16th century hospital was already here.

Despite he was born in Torrijos, his professional duties were in Madrid, where he run the firm Zaid, a business dedicated to fine lingerie, located on Arenal St. So his first idea was to built a second home for holidays, but he decided to use it also as a poultry farm. The family house was finished in 1950, as confirmed by an engraved incription on a sundial.

Arturo's two passions in life were gardening and books, so he left both testimonies that can be seen nowadays. The current gardens mainly follow his designs, and many species are still preserved. Or the astonishing library, which keeps several antique editions, for bibliophile's delight.
