THE HISTORY OF LA SALVE
The
fields where the Hotel is located were acquired by Arturo López
Rofríguez in 1947, but previously they were already known as the
place of La Salve among the locals. By that time, it was only a arable
land, dry and arid, but there are historical records that confirm a
16th century hospital was already here.
Despite he
was born in Torrijos, his professional duties were in Madrid, where he
run the firm Zaid, a business dedicated to fine lingerie, located on
Arenal St. So his first idea was to built a second home for holidays,
but he decided to use it also as a poultry farm. The family house was
finished in 1950, as confirmed by an engraved incription on a
sundial.
Arturo's
two passions in life were gardening and books, so he left both
testimonies that can be seen nowadays. The current gardens mainly
follow his designs, and many species are still preserved. Or the
astonishing library, which keeps several antique editions, for
bibliophile's delight.
